Dracula Presentations

My dearest students,

Here you have ALL PowerPoints I have used in class to work on Dracula. First, the PPT's without the answers:

Dracula Presentation from alexteacherproa

And now, the PowerPoints with the answers. This is the real stuff:

Dracula presentation with answers ok from alexteacherproa

One more thing!  I've been told that there's a little change in the exam. Now it has three parts:

1- Identify dialogues. You will have a sentence (a line of dialogue) and you will have to say who said that line and to who. For example: "But you must go, Jonathan. The Count is rich, and perhaps he will give you more work later". Answer: "Mina to Jonathan".
2- Fill in the gaps. You will have in the paper the story about Dracula with some gaps, and you will have to fill them. For example: "Jonathan finds Dracula's cart, the coffin breaks and Jonathan kills Dracula with _________". Answer: "a knife".
3- Composition. This is the new part (as I said, I've been told today after our class). You will have to write a short composition (100 words) about one of the chapters in the book. It's rather easy, so don't panic.

You will have 60 minutes to do the exam; I mean, our class on Wednesday will be completely dedicated to do the exam about Dracula.
So, c'mon, let's go. Study hard and good luck!

News about Dracula

Dear brothers and sisters,

As you know, this unit we must read -and finish- Dracula. The exam about the book is next Wednesday (next week), April 2nd. We still have three "chapters" to read and only one class left. So... this is what we are going to do.

Next Thursday, the day of the strike, we're going to read Dracula in class. If you come, we'll read two fragments and complete the quizzes for Day 6 and Day 7. Next Monday (March 31) we have class at 9 AM; we'll read the last chapter and we will make a general revision about the book. As I said, on Wednesday April 2nd, exam.

If you don't come to school next Thursday (strike), you will have to read a bit at home. Read from page 25 to page 34. I'm attaching the quizzes for those pages in this blog entry, so that you can complete them while you are reading.

I know this is not the best way to do it, but we've had three classes cancelled in three weeks: two for extra activities and one because of the strike. Instead of having 9 hours, we've had only 6. Sorry for the inconvenience, guys.

Style Wars

If you need some inspiration with your speaking activity here you have the link to Style Wars, the film we talked about in class. It is in English without English subtitles; it is a bit difficult to undertand. But if you go to Youtube and search "Style Wars Película Completa", you will find a copy of "Style Wars" translated into Spanish. But remember: you must do your speaking activity in English!!!

Power Point 24th March (Speaking Activity)

Hello Folks:

Here you have the Powerpoint I have used today in class. You have all the rules and instructions for doing your speaking activity. As always, if you have any doubts, you can contact me at my e-mail address: alexteacherproa@gmail.com

Remember you have to send me the video BEFORE next Monday (March 30th). Also, you have to give me your composition about your work art by Thursday. The plan is that you print it and give it to me on Wednesday or Thursday. I'll be at the teachers' room during the morning (10 AM - 14 PM). If you cannot print it, you can send me your composition by e-mail BEFORE the end of Thursday (March 27th).

Street artists on war

Look at this. Robbo, one of the first London street artists, saw how Banksy did something "new" with one of his tags in Camden. That started a war between the two artists; a war with paintings, not with bullets. The end of the story is really touching. Take a look in the following webpage: Roobo vs Banksy War Here

Choose a work of art

As I told you in class, you have to choose one work of art you really like. You can choose your own, of course. Or you can choose one of the following suggestions.

Now, this is what you have to do:
1- Choose one work of art you like
2- Look for a picture of it. Store it in your computer.
3- Look for some information about the work of art.
4- Next Monday, bring your computer to class (with the picture and the info)
5- If you CAN'T bring your computer, bring a picture of the work of art you have chosen and some information about it. Print the picture and bring it on Monday.

So, here you have some suggestions.

Exit Through The Gift Shop

Are you curious about street art? Here you can see the full movie "Exit Through The Gift Shop", directed by Banksy. It is not only a good documentary about street art, but also a bright reflection about the art world and the art market. English subtitles are embedded. Enjoy!

Keith Haring in Barcelona

Here you can see the full video of Keith Haring painting in Barcelona. First, you will see him working at Raval. But after that he can be seen painting a mural in a cool club, at night, while people are dancing. The Club was called Ars Studio, and was located at Carrer Atenas. Today the club does not exist, and the place is a dance school.

And here you can see the video about the reproduction of the painting. Please, notice that the video comes from Barcelona TV, a TV owned by the local council. In the news it is said that the wall was demolished because graffiti painters had ruined it, because the wall was seriously damaged. In the news it seems that demolishing the wall was something inevitable. But the truth is the wall was demolished because the local council wanted to reform the whole area and develop a new urban plan.
